So that means there are 4 kiddos with 2 tickets each who have not yet received their tickets. Family Fun Night

The PTG is sponsoring a FREE Winter Family Night on Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Southgate Elementary cafeteria. There will be crafts, hot chocolate and a special story reading by our very own Mrs. Vickiy VanBeek. The Winter Giving Baskets will also be on display and you will be able to purchase tickets. ALL the proceeds from the Giving Baskets go to help Southgate families in need this holiday season. See you there!

Our next PTG meeting is Wednesday, December 8th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. This will be the last opportunity to purchase Winter Giving Basket tickets. The drawing will follow the meeting. *Winter Baskets*

Southgate's 4th Annual Winter Giving Basket Raffle has begun! The baskets are on display outside the office and raffle tickets will be on sale throughout conferences and at Winter Family Night for $1 each or 12 for $10. Raffle winners will be drawn at the Winter PTG meeting on Wednesday, December 8. All proceeds from the tickets sales will be given to Southgate families who are in need of a little extra support. This is an exciting event for our school and is a wonderful opportunity for Southgate families to come together and support each other during the holiday season!

*Winter Family Night*

Join other Southgate families in the cafeteria on Thursday, December 2 at 6:30 pm for a fun filled night of holiday cheer! There will be cookies and hot cocoa, holiday crafts, and our very own principal, Mrs. VanBeek will be reading Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Winter Giving Basket raffle tickets will be on sale and PTG will have an assortment of greenery from Sherwood Forest available for purchase. Come join us for some holiday cheer!

PTG's Winter General Meeting will be Wednesday, December 8, at 6:30 pm in the Cafeteria. This is a great opportunity to learn more about what PTG has been up to and find out how you can help enrich the lives of students and staff at Southgate. Winners for the Winter Giving Baskets will be drawn and announced at the end of the meeting. Please join us for this exciting event!!

*Bingo Night*

Mark your calendars for Bingo Night on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 6:30 pm. We had a packed house at last year's event and there were lots of winners. This event is hosted by the Kindergarten parents so bring the family for a night of fun and show your support for the newest members of our Southgate family!

In conjunciton with our Super Spirit Friday we are kicking off the weekend with our first Family Fun Night! Come join the fun at our 2nd Annual Tailgate Party before the Kennewick vs. Southridge football game. Family Fun Nights are a great chance to associate with and meet people who are part of the Southgate community. Bring a chair and join us for an evening of fun.

Award winning children's book author and illustrator Matt Faulkner will be visiting Southgate on Friday, October 22nd (Super Spirit Friday!). He has created over 30 books for children and he will be talking to our children about the writing and illustrating process.

Jogathon

We need you!

Our 5th Annual Jogathon is Friday October 1st.

The Schedule is as follows:

AM Kindergarten 10 am

PM Kindergarten 1:30 pm
1st - 5th Grades 1:30 pm

For each session we will need two parents from each participating class to help out with set up and getting the kids ready for the event. Jobs involved are: getting the kids in their T-shirts, attaching lap count cards to back of t-shirt, distributing water bottles and escorting the class to the track, tallying the laps for each student.

We will also need volunteers to help with the run.

If you are a classroom parent/helper, please arrive 1 hour prior to the start time. Your help will be invaluable in the classroom getting the kids ready. We will have the packet with instructions in the classroom for you. If you are helping outside with the run please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time. All volunteers will need to sign in at the front office and get a name badge.

In years past, the Jogathon has been our most successful fundraiser, we need you to help make it a success! Come and cheer our Southgate students on!

Welcome Back!

We hope you all had a great summer and are enjoying the changes that come every September.

First we would like to give a warm welcome to our new principal, Vickiy Van Beek and our new secretary, Denise Frantti. We are looking forward to a great year with you!

We enjoyed seeing many of you at the BBQ/Open House. We had a great turn out and are excited to be starting a new year at Southgate! A few items of business. . .

1. Be sure to check in at the Main Office when visiting Southgate. Thanks you for your patience as we develop new procedures during our year in the Fruitland Building.
2. Buses drop off in the South Parking Lot. Student pick up/drop off is in the North Parking Lot. Please do not park in the drop off lane or allow your student to run through the parking lot!
3. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for playing on the playground and brings water bottles on warm days to stay hydrated.
4. We are looking for parents to teach new sidewalk games to our students during lunch. Contact Mrs. Woods (lori.woods@ksd.org) if you have any ideas.
5. We are still in need of volunteers for the PTG board. Please contact us at southgateelementaryptg@gmail.com if you are interested.
6. Remember to turn in your Two Hour Power Pledge sheet and Volunteer forms. These should have recently come home from school with your child.

Super Spirit Friday

March 26th will be our next Super Spirit Friday. (Don't forget, every Friday is Spirit Friday. Wear Southgate colors to show your school spirit!). The theme will be be Favorite Book Character Day. Students should bring their favorite children's book to school and come dressed as their favorite character. What a great way to finish off a fun and busy month of reading.

Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5K

In May, the PTG will have a team (Pink Dragons) walking in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5K in Richland. We are looking for walkers who would like to join our team. It's a great way to stay healthy and support a great cause. Click here to sign up.

In the month of March students will track their reading minutes each week while they read their way across America. The more minutes they read, the farther they will go. Look for more information coming home with your child on March 2nd.

Bring your family for a free night of reading in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday! A surprise celebrity will be reading his favorite Dr. Seuss book. There will also be Seuss-themed arts and crafts and pictures with the Cat in the Hat ($1). Bring your favorite books and enjoy reading as a family at this fun event.
