This Friday, March 28th, is Super Spirit Friday. Students can bring their favorite book to school and come dressed as their favorite character. We will end the day with a school-wide Stop, Drop and Read. What a great way to finish off Read Across America Month!

Silverwood Tally Sheet

Silverwood tally sheets are due March 21st (Friday), but we don't have school that day. Please bring them by Thursday, March 20th!!! Don't forget to turn yours in to receive a free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park for this summer!

Read your way to a free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park. It's not too late! You can read 10 hours this week and earn a free ticket for this summer. Tally sheets are due in one week, on March 21st. If you aren't done yet, get reading!

March is Read Across America Month

March is Read Across America Month and we love to celebrate reading at Southgate! Aside from our birthday celebration yesterday we have a Family Movie Night coming up and a Super Spirit Friday (dress up as your favorite book character). We are looking forward to celebrating with you so mark your calendars now!

 

Also, you still have time to read 10 hours and get a free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park. The dealine to turn in your Silverwood tally sheet is March 21st.

Grad a book and READ with the CAT! Beginning March 1st accept the READING CHALLENGE to increase your monthly reading minutes. All school reading minutes will be tracked in the cafeteria. GO DRAGONS! Let's increase our monthly totals!

From March 1st-17th, students will track their reading minutes each day while they read their way across America. The more minutes they read the farther they will go! Each student is encouraged to read 600 minutes to earn a free Silverwood ticket.

Reading logs are due by or before before March 18th.

Don't forget the PARENT'S SIGNATURE.

Read to Silverwood

As you know March is read across America month; why not read your way to Silverwood on your way across America?

Students will track their reading minutes each day while they read their way across America. The more minutes they read, the farther they will go! Each student who reads 600 minutes will earn a free ticket to Silverwood Theme Park. Silverwood reading logs have been sent home, don't forget to fill them out and turn them in on or before March 26th!

Dr. Seuss Birthday and Read Across America Month

Come celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday this Thursday, March 1st as we kick off Read Across America month! Students who purchased Dr. Seuss hats may wear their hat to school on this day (March 1st). We will have birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss during lunch time. The PTG has a few additional hats for sale for $5 each, available before school on 3/1.

We are in need of 3-4 volunteers to assist in serving birthday cake on Thursday from 10:45 am - 12:00 pm. Please contact the PTG with your availability at southgateelementaryptg@gmail.com.

Dr. Seuss Hats

On March 1st, Southgate will kick-off Read Across America Month with a birthday celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss. The PTG is pre-ordering Dr. Seuss hats for students to wear on this special, event-filled day. If you would like to order a hat for your child(ren) please return the yellow order form that came home with your child. Hats are $5 each.

Please order by Thursday, February 16th (yes, that's tomorrow!).

Scholastic Book Fair

March is Read Across America Month. That makes March a great month for our book fair.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place March 7-11, 2011 in the library. Books will also be available for purchase at the Family Read-In on the 16th.
