This week (Dec. 9-13) Southgate is having a Food Drive. If you can, please send non perishable food items to school with your child. The Classroom bringing the most food will win a sweet treat! Thank you for helping those in need this season!

Speed Stacking!!

Tonight is Southgate's Annual Speed Stacking Event! Join us for 20-30 minutes between 3 and 8 pm in the gym at Southgate.

 

Stack Up 2013 involves the most people sport stacking at multiple locations throughout the world in one day. YOU can help our school set a new record! Invite family and friends and come to Southgate today. This year we are stacking in support of the Tri Cities Diaper Bank.

 

Pizza and Concessions will be available.

It's a new year!

Welcome back dragons! Southgate is off to a great start this year. We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready for a year of learning and discovering at Southgate.

The Southgate Elementary Parent Teacher Group is excited for this year and welcomes all who desire to contribute to the excellent learning environment at Southgate. PTG meetings are held quarterly in September, January, March and May in the school library. The meetings will generally last about an hour. There are many volunteer opportunities available, many of which require very  little time and some you can do from the comfort of your own home.

Our Fall  PTG General Meeting will be on September 24th @ 6:30pm in the library. We look forward to meeting you!

Field Day

Our Minute to Win it Field Day is tomorrow!

 

Thank you to all who are volunteering. This event could not happen without YOU! Please remember to sign in at the office and wear a name tag.

 

Have your child wear sunscreen and send extra with your him or her.

 

Students should bring their own water bottle, clearly marked with their name.

 

Hats are allowed (no one likes a sunburn on their head!).

 

Some students may get wet so consider throwing some spare clothing in their backpack.

Picnic

Good Morning Dragons!

 

Our picnic today will happen rain or shine. The gym will be available for families to spread out blankets and have an indoor picnic or you can sit in the cafeteria. Or maybe the rain will stop and you can enjoy some fresh air? Bring a chair just in case... See you in a few hours!

It's Teacher Apprectiation Week!

Did you know this week (May 6-10) is Teacher Appreciation Week? Have you already thanked your child's teacher for all their efforts on your child's behalf? If not, please take a moment to let them know how grateful you are for them. The teachers at Southgate are the best, lets make sure they know how we feel about them!

 

Not sure how to let your child's teacher know how grateful you are? Here are some ideas...

 

1. Write a heartfelt, handwritten note.

2. Involve your kids by helping them share things they appreciate about their teacher (Thank you for... I love how you.... This year you've taught me how to...). They could write a note, draw a picture, write a poem...

3. Send flowers.

4. Volunteer to help with the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on May 9th.

5. Give him/her a gift card to a favorite restaurant.

6. Make a small gift that shows you care.

7. Bring him/her a yummy treat.

8. Donate a book of their choice to the classroom library.

9. Donate classroom supplies.

10. Donate to a charity the name of your teacher.

Reptile Man Tonight

Tonight (April 12) Reptile Man, Scott Petersen, and many of his cold blooded friends will be at Southgate! This is always a very popular event so be sure to come a little early. Admission is $2 per person. A portion of the proceeds will be supporting the Southgate Special Olympics Team!

Today is the day!!

 

Remember to turn in your Silverwood Reading log TODAY, March 18, 2013 to get a free ticket to Silverwood for the 2013 summer season! Please add up all your minutes and don't forget the parent's signature.

Also, tomorrow night (March 19th) there will be a Free Family Fun Night. Join us for family friendly crafts and a used book exchange.

March is our "Month of Reading Madness"

Grad a book and READ with the CAT! Beginning March 1st accept the READING CHALLENGE to increase your monthly reading minutes. All school reading minutes will be tracked in the cafeteria. GO DRAGONS! Let's increase our monthly totals!

From March 1st-17th, students will track their reading minutes each day while they read their way across America. The more minutes they read the farther they will go! Each student is encouraged to read 600 minutes to earn a free Silverwood ticket.

Reading logs are due by or before before March 18th.

Don't forget the PARENT'S SIGNATURE.
